| Review for: Cragganmore Scotch 12 Year |
Cragganmore 13 yr. Distillers Edition, Jun 19, 2008
Man I love this Speyside Single Malt. Fruity, maple, pears in the nose. Deep dark amber. Tastes sweet, fruity, Holds on too. Smoke and spice finish. Probably my favorite at the moment. Definitely for after dinner. A lot of maltiness very little peat. A classic Speyside. Similar and cheaper whiskies to try Glen Garioch 8 yr. and Lismore NAS which is a 5 yr old Glenrothe. |

For White Rum?, Jun 17, 2008
It's pretty decent for a white rum. I'm biased, since my tastes lean farther to the darker rums, but if you're looking for something sweet that isn't as strong and forceful as certain rums and alcohol drinks, (IE: Disaronno, Goldschlager, Parrot Bay), then it's the right drink for you. The sting is easily neutralized with lime juice or even Diet Coke, but the sweetness also leaves a bitter taste afterwards. I give it a 4 for its overall performance in getting the job done quickly. I recommend it if you're a slow drinker. If you're a quick drinker, whiskey over this, hands down. I hope this review helped. |

| Review for: Pastis Prado Liqueur |
Absinthe it is not.., Jun 16, 2008
..but it certainly retains some of the Absinthe experience, and this for 1/4 of the price. After the Absinthe ban Pastis was intended to be its replacement. I'm an Absinthe lover, but there definitely is something to be said for Pastis also.
Pastis should be diluted with 5 measures of cool water. With Prado this produces a flat drink. If you prepare it a la Absinthe (Parisian Ritual) though, with an added sugar cube, the drink comes alive.
Prepared like this its a decent drink, at a very agreeable price, that is truly enjoyable. It is an aperitif so would go well with any drink, but bear in mind it is anise-flavored and this lingers for some time.
This certainly is no anise-turpentine like many low-end Ouzo's and Raki's so often are, diluted with a sugar cube there's a good flavor to it. The louche is not of this world, its almost milky after just a bit of water is added but fortunately the taste was rather smooth with a good mouth feel.
Absinthe it is not, and its not the best Pastis either, but for the quality you get for the price you pay (almost the same price as low-end vodka) it most definitely is worth a try.
Like all anise liqueurs this is not something to get drunk on, as there will be a price to pay the next morning.
Given price for quality, I rate this 4/5 |

| Review for: Jeremiah Weed Bourbon Liqueur |
The Weed, Jun 05, 2008
My experience with liqueurs have been very bad. To name a few; Southern Comfort, Yukon Jack, and one or two European liqueurs have all been ghastly. Then some friends introduced me to Jeremiah. After the first two shots I was convinced this stuff was no better than anything else I had tried to date. It scorched my innards all the way down and brought me to the point of vomiting. However, what caught my interest was its good, old-fashioned American bourbon flavor lying underneath a heavy sweetness. After five shots it didn't scorch anymore. Weed eventually became very enjoyable. |

| Review for: Duggan's Dew Scotch |
Terrific Everyday Scotch, May 25, 2008
When I moved to the mountains of North Carolina, the word among local tipplers was that Duggan's Dew--a somewhat obscure blend--tasted pretty much the same as Dewar's White Label, but at a budget price. Turns out they were right, and Duggan's has become my favorite everyday Scotch, supplanting Grant's and Old MacGregor in that role. It's a rich blend, one that avoids the slight (what?) acetone tinge that affronts my palate with Teacher's Highland Cream and other similarly-priced three-year-olds. While it won't make you forget, say, a Glenlivet Archive 21 (a Xmas present last year), it will perform yeoman service in a day-to-day capacity. Highly recommended. |
